29/03/22 - Sponsorship - Entry 31

Following on from our last post, here is another post on Enterprise tips!

Sponsorship is a major part of the enterprise and marketing of your team. Sponsors allow you to get free products like software and uniform, as well as money for the entry fee and merch. Sponsors are vital in building a winning team, especially in Dev and Pro Class.

When looking for sponsors, we recommend looking for small companies as they would be more willing to sponsor you and get their brand advertised. Also, make sure you are specific when emailing them about what you want, there's no good asking for sponsorship if you don't know what you want. Make sure to fine-tune your email to suit your sponsors needs and make sure you can reward their investment. Also we recommend sending out lots of emails to a wide variety of companies. We learned the hard way that most companies turn down sponsorship requests, but you don't have to go through that pain now you are reading this post! By sending out lots of emails, you are widening the chance that one or two of them will accept.

Return on Investment (ROI) is a major part of sponsorship. ROI is what you are giving the sponsor in return for their product/money. This can be anything, from advertisement on portfolios and YouTube, to their logo on your uniform and car. This helps smaller companies out by giving them advertisement to teams most in need of their product which incentivises them to sponsor you. At Team Marl1n, we offer three levels of sponsorship: Sword, Marine and Atlantic. They offer an increasing number of benefits to incentivise small and medium companies to sponsor us. Make sure to set certain thresholds for your levels to give each sponsor a fair ROI.

Finally, boast! You need to sell your team to the potential sponsor and let them know your are the best team with highest chance of winning! If you are in Dev or Pro class, boast about your achievements in previous competitions. Also make sure to highlight how your sponsor would be helping your team and your potential sponsor.
